What to Expect on This Tour

This journey offers an unforgettable exploration of Iceland’s dramatic volcanic landscapes, glacier lagoons, waterfalls, black-sand beaches, and geothermal wonders while searching for the magical northern lights.

Travelers can expect a moderately active pace featuring scenic drives, guided sightseeing, outdoor exploration, and multiple evening northern lights searches throughout Iceland’s breathtaking countryside.

Walking is required throughout the tour, particularly at waterfalls, volcanic beaches, glacier viewpoints, geothermal areas, and natural attractions. Travelers should be comfortable walking moderate distances on uneven terrain, gravel paths, rocky surfaces, wet walkways, and occasional inclines.

There may be several days where walking and sightseeing activities total up to 3–5 miles spread throughout the day. Outdoor conditions can include wind, rain, slippery surfaces, uneven ground, and colder temperatures, especially during evening northern lights searches.

Several days include extended scenic travel by motor-coach through Iceland’s rugged countryside and along coastal regions. These travel days are balanced with numerous scenic stops and opportunities to explore Iceland’s extraordinary natural wonders.

Northern lights excursions may involve late evenings, cold temperatures, and standing outdoors for extended periods while waiting for viewing opportunities.

Northern lights sightings are dependent upon weather, cloud cover, and solar activity. While every effort is made to maximize viewing opportunities, sightings cannot be guaranteed.

The tour includes outdoor sightseeing in a variety of weather conditions, including glacier regions, geothermal areas, waterfalls, and black-sand beaches. Layered clothing, waterproof outerwear, hats, gloves, and sturdy walking shoes are strongly recommended.

Most touring days begin before 9:00 a.m. and may continue into the evening, particularly during northern lights excursions and searches.
